Science Content Standards. The State of California Board of Education has put out an ambitious outline for science education in grades K-12. While suggesting no specific teaching method, the standards detail by grade what students should know. A little hint for those parents who have forgotten that a mole is a number, or what stoichiometry is; it's time to hit the books again.

Science Standards: Promises and Dangers. Robert F. Tinker dares to ask "at what cost content?", concerned that educators, by focusing on the facts of science, could sacrifice students' chance to learn the spirit (and skills) of scientific inquiry.

State Science Standards; An Appraisal of Science Standards in 36 States. What makes a standard a good standard? Lawrence S. Lerner, comparing the science standards of 36 states in 1998, gives his criteria for evaluating standards while describing some of the major controversies and confusions in science education. Don't go here for current information, however, California's entry is based on the now defunct Frameworks.
