Improve Use of Evidence in Districts’ Plans

Challenge: How to help the planning teams in all districts in Napa County build better local control accountability plans (LCAPs). Better plans required smarter interpretation of better evidence. At the same time, Napa CoE wanted the course to help them build a network improvement community that would foster trust and long-term collaboration.

Solution: They engaged the K-12 Measures PD team at School Wise Press to write and deliver a 20-hour course to build measurement skills, and build a foundation of collaboration for their professional learning network.

What we did: Wrote the course and delivered it in five half-day installments. Between visits, we hosted online virtual sessions. At the end, we evaluated our impact, using pre-post surveys developed by an external evaluator.

What they did: Met five times, participated in discussions, read assigned texts, teamed up for analytic exercises, shared elements of their plans, wrote data narratives and presented them to the group.

Outcome: According to session leader, Lucy Edwards, Napa CoE’s director of continuous improvement, ” …. the K12 Measures team helped us improve our interpretation of data, visually present findings more persuasively, and better interpret historical information…..” Click here to read her letter in full.

Time elapsed: 25 hours (5 four-hour seminars, plus 5 on-line sessions)

Client: Napa County Office of Education and all their districts
